Important Information 

 

2027 Open Enrollment (OE) is coming! During the month of November, all retirees eligible for health care insurance may make changes to their insurance enrollment and re-enroll in in-lieu. Remember that you must re-enroll in health-in-lieu and dental in-lieu annually as those elections do not automatically roll over. For members with dependents under age 24, Open Enrollment is the time you can add your dependent children to your medical, dental and/or vision coverage (some coverage is available until age 26). Members who previously submitted full time student confirmations, and your dependent remains under the age of 26, you may need to re-enroll your dependents. If you are not looking to make any changes and wish to keep your insurance carriers for 2027, you do not need to submit any forms to Retirement Services. 

Open Enrollment 2027 Key Dates:    

  • October 26, 2026 - Open Enrollment Packets Will Start to Arrive by U.S. Postal Service to your mailing address on file with ORS   
  • November 1, 2026 – Open Enrollment Begins. First day change forms will be accepted.    
  • November 4, 2026 – Retiree In-person Health Fair between 10 am to 2 pm at Leininger Center, Okayama Room
  • November 30, 2026 – Open Enrollment Ends. Last day change forms will be accepted.   
  • October 08, 2026 – ORS staff presentation to Association of Retired San Jose Police Officers and Firefighters at their monthly membership meeting. For more information, visit the Retired San Jose Police Officers and Firefighters Association website: https://retiredsjpolicefire.org. 
  • October 08, 2026 – ORS staff presentation to San Jose Retired Employees Association (SJREA) at their monthly membership meeting. For more information, visit the San Jose Retired Employees Association website: https://sjrea.com/news. 

What’s New in 2027: 

  • Chiropractic and Acupuncture coverage for Kaiser (both non-Medicare and Medicare plans)
    • Kaiser has contracted with American Specialty Health Plans of California (ASH Plans) to provide supplemental chiropractic and acupuncture benefits

 What’s Changing in 2027:

  • Additional Benefits to Accidental Death & Dismemberment Coverage
    The voluntary AD&D plan will include five new benefits for you and your family.
    • Child Survivor Benefit
    • Home Alteration & Vehicle Modification Benefit
    • Brain Damage Benefit
    • Burial & Cremation Benefit
    • Natural Disaster Benefit
    • Employee Assistance Program
      • Counseling, work-life assistance, and crisis intervention services to members and their household family members
      • Reasons members may use these services for but are not limited to:
        • Stress, anxiety, or depression
        • Dealing with grief and loss
        • Balancing demands of work and family
